[world premiere] Illuminations @ DOC NYC

I’m so thrilled to finally share that Illuminations will have its World Premiere at DOC NYC on November 11 at the IFC Center in NYC.

Brandon Vedder and I have spent the past four years making this film with our cinematic heroes Nathaniel Dorsky and Jerome Hiler—two legendary experimental filmmakers & life partners whose lives have been devoted to the possibilities of cinema and the art of seeing.

Illuminations is, on one level, a quiet portrait of Nathaniel and Jerome and their remarkable sixty-plus years together, but we hope it is also something more: a film about attention, perception, and what it might mean to move through the world with our eyes truly open. Nathaniel has spoken of cinema’s potential to become a “wisdom form,” and that idea became one of the guiding lights of the film.

Nathaniel and Jerome will join Brandon and me for a Q&A following the World Premiere on November 11. Brandon and I will also be there for our second DOC NYC screening on November 13.

And definitely not to be missed, following the premiere, @anthologyfilmarchives will present three programs of Nathaniel and Jerome’s films on 16mm November 16–18, with both filmmakers in attendance.

We’re enormously excited to finally share this film—and especially to share it in New York, where so much of Nathaniel and Jerome’s story began.
